Sony Smart B-Trainer – Heartfelt Music on the Run

By Michael S • June 24, 2015 • News

Sony’s newest addition to its arsenal of waterproof ear plugs is the stuff of science fiction. I’m sure you’ve heard of or personally experienced how music can have a positive impact on your physical work outs. The new Sony Smart B-Trainer senses your heart rate during runs and automatically uses that data to select and play songs to guide your running pace, so you train efficiently in your optimum heart rate zone. Oh did I mention the Smart B- Trainer is GPS enabled too?

It’s refreshing to see Sony bring something unique to the wearable fitness scene. The Sony Smart B-Trainer packs a myriad of sensors including an accelerometer, a gyroscope, electronic compass, barometer, GPS and heart rate monitor all in a tiny package weighing a mere 43g.

If you’re the sort who perspires profusely, fear not. The Sony Smart B-Trainer is IPX 5/8 certified. Heck bring it for a quick swim if you like.

The Sony Smart B-Trainer stores up to 3900 songs with its 16GB storage capacity and functions independently without tethering to a smart phone. It automatically records your run progress and even dispenses voice guidance to help the user reach his goals.

After your run, you can easily review your route with the multitude of information captured by the Smart B-Trainer. The Sony Smart B-Trainer is essentially a GPS , heart rate monitor, music player and a pseudo personal coach combined into one.

Sony has also collaborated with Asics and, depending on country availability, users may be able to experience training plans created with “MY ASICS” in real-time with Smart B-Trainer.

List of features:

  • Tracks heart rate, calories burned, distance, time, speed, pace, pitch, steps, strides, running route, altitude
  • IPX5/IPX8 certified waterproof
  • 16GB memory
  • Music playback and voice guidance during runs
  • Mobile app for data review available on App Store and Google Play
  • Battery life is advertised between 3-6 hours depending on GPS usage
  • Bluetooth 4.0

The Sony Smart B-Trainer is available in black, blue, white, pink and yellow. Based on the sale price in Singapore, it should retail for about $300 USD when it hits the market. You can read more here.
